This book was given to me by the author when i shared that i was feeling frustrated and confused as a female at this day and age . I claimed my month and went through another journey of self discovery. some days were a breeze , others hit the core . Perhaps i am still a bit confused but i feel more connected and aware of myself. i am incredibly thankful for this book and Trista . As a life coach, i have used the exercises in the books with my clients . They have also enjoyed it and had many "AH" moments.
The questions are also great conversation starters
Women, no matter how far we think we have come, no matter how hard we have worked to claim our own sovereignty, we are always pulled back, or pulled up short, by the patriarchy, and the culture and media that supports it, to say nothing of the conservative half of the political movement that would like nothing but to see women put back in their place. For those of us to whom this matters, to those of us who still continuously and constantly struggle to be MORE than what they were, what they are, along comes an answer, a tool, to help us continue on with our struggle to fight the bonds of our patriarchal upbringing and, more importantly, to heal, to love ourselves. It is a book called a "New Love, A Reprogramming Toolbox for Undoing the Knots". It is filled with amazing artwork by Arna Bartz, quotes, exercises, journaling, pages to color and so much more. In reading Trista Hendren's introduction, I found myself laughing at her words about buying pages to color, and feeling that there must be something else she could be doing that is more important. As my daughter has been after me to draw, to color and talked me in to buying the most gorgeous Goddess coloring book that I still have not touched, I could relate. This is one more wonderful book from Girl God Publications. I am honored to call Trista my friend and I hope to get to know Arna through her art. After just giving the book a quick perusal, I find myself looking forward to taking the time to myself, for myself, and working through it page by page, exercise by exercise, quote by quote. When I was growing up, my mother taught me that women could do anything. I believed her then, but by the time I had my own little girl I’d started to see that things were stacked against us, and in ways I’d never even noticed.
For a couple of years now, I’ve been working to sort out what is True (capital T) from the “truths” I’ve been taught by a society that values men above women. This is a bit like a fish discovering that it lives in this stuff called water and trying to understand what it is, where it ends, and what exists outside of it. The process is confusing and disorienting.
I’m so excited by New Love because it offers much of what I and other women need in order to get our grounding in a new, loving, woman-empowering reality. These include
- Touching personal messages from the authors which offer confirmation that we are not alone in our experience as well as helpful guidance for moving forward.
- Quotes from women leaders, thinkers, activists, and artists who have been on this journey and have much to teach.
- Woman-affirming/self-affirming gorgeous art that is vibrant with loving energy and meaning.
- Thought-provoking questions, room to work through those questions in writing, and suggested physical movements to reinforce the new ideas that emerge.
- An approach of offering guideposts, but leaving plenty of open space for each reader to come to mine her own life and heart for her specific truths.
- Resources, resources, resources. The list of books and websites will help you to continue on your beautiful journey after you’ve worked through the book.
- Beauty and good vibes. Just having the book in the room with me feels like a blessing. There are even some coloring pages that make me want to sharpen my colored pencils, put on some good music, and play with colors on gorgeous images of women.
I still think my mother is correct. Women can do anything, especially if we support and uplift each other. Two women created this sublime toolbox, and I hope millions of women will make it their own and take their new love into the world to do more than any one of us could have imagined alone.
This is an amazing resource for spiritual growth and cultivating self-love. The journal-type prompts were great! I can't wait to read the rest of the authors' books.
I found this book through a Facebook page called The Girl God, where the authors also suggested interacting w/ a private group, going through the book together each day and posting about it. What a blessing, that community!
I've been on a journey for many years to discover the Goddess in history and in the modern world, and this book has and is helping me discover Her inside myself. My spiritual path has led me down many different roads, and I feel like I'm finally coming back home, and learning to redine love in a healthy way. Thank you for the support!
