Excellent book! Read it in 1 day. I am a registered dietitian and see many patients with diabetes. I wish more doctors would make these recommendations. I’ve bought 4 copies to give to family and clients. Good sound advice. Not just for people with diabetes.

It seems many organizations are recommending a low-fat diet, but as a health professional myself, it seems more of the research better supports either a low carb high-fat diet or the Mediterranean diet. All diets work but some just work better. If you follow Dr. Hamptons instructions you'll lose weight just the way he says. I lost weight the very first week, but I am carb addicted and gave up quickly. When I try again, I will still follow the directions and advice in this book.
I really enjoyed this book. While I myself do not have diabetes, I do have family members who suffer from type 2. I can honestly recommend this book to those who do not suffer from this disease because of the nutritional advice alone, in addition to the information about diabetes. The healthy alternatives recommended to replace those foods that are not so healthy will be implemented in my family's diet asap. The first chapter of the book truly stuck with me personally. Finding your motivation is one of the keys to not only living a healthy life, but living a happy life. Awesome job Dr. H!!
This book is outstanding. Dr. Hampton explains why type 2 diabetes happens and what we can do to UNDO many, if not most or even all of the damage done. With this book, you'll finally understand what foods can help or hurt, and why. The power is in our hands, and Dr. Hampton wants to help us heal. He uses humor, compassion, and motivation, and you will want to pass this book on to everone you care about.
I truly recommend it as a guide for a life spent too indulgently without thought of potential consequences to my future health but in mitigation, I was thrown bodily into homelessness at age 55 and I was unable to think past tommorrows barely on.gained calories to keep me alive after many years a s a successful college trained insurance professional too self. assured to think that I might someday find myself in a breadlines life and had no real experience at defusing real hunger nor worrying what such a diet of too sweet but easily and cheapest foods were doing to my health in the long term. ! I searched several years as my weight shot up alarmingly to well past morbid obesity and Dr. Hampton's book is truly turning a tide I had not thought possible. Thank you Dr!
I was lucky enough to meet Dr Hampton at a Lean health convention and saw him present a compelling talk on diabetes and insulin resistance. I am not diabetic, but I was carrying excess weight and my diet was carb and sugar based. I left informed and inspired about what I'd heard, but also concerned as to my diet and the impact it was having on my health.

I read the book, and contacted the author for follow up advice. I then set a target to improve my health and made two decisions. I would skip breakfast and attempt to do intermittent fasting on what is known as 16/8. I fast from 8pm until noon the next day, and then eat a sensible diet for the other 8 hours. I also committed to give up sugar, especially anything with High Fructose Corn Syrup in it.

It was not easy! Read the labels and realize how many carbs everything contains! I learned from the book and other sources to adapt to low carbs and higher fat intakes.

The Results

In 3 months I lost 35 lbs going from 185 to 150. My medicated BP dropped from 180s/90s to 130s/65-75. My doctor was stunned and amazed, and reduced my BP meds and told me for my age and health my BP was now normal. My overall health is so much better, my appetite controlled, my sugar craving gone, and my overall alertness has never been better. I'm down two pant sizes, three shirts sizes, and two jacket sizes!

Dr Hampton is really a great evangelist for this. His texts are based on deep scientific research, and are evidence based. Is it a panacea? NO, but if you want to lose weight, fight your diabetes, and reduce your dependance on insulin then you could do worse than read this book, and try what is suggested. It worked for me so much so I now find it easy to avoid carbs and sugars, and have adjusted my eating habits so that I can sustain the success.
